With sadness, Cappella Amsterdam has learned of the passing of Harry van der Kamp (1947-2026).
Harry van der Kamp was among the singers who stood at the cradle of Cappella Amsterdam. In 1970, Harry was one of the choir’s founders. His exceptional musical career subsequently took him all over the world. As a soloist and ensemble singer, he performed with the Netherlands Chamber Choir, with his own Gesualdo Consort Amsterdam, and with countless ensembles at home and abroad.
Yet his bond with Cappella Amsterdam always remained. Even after his many musical wanderings, he stayed closely connected to the choir and remained active as a singer within Cappella Amsterdam into old age. In doing so, he was not only a witness to the choir’s development through the decades, but also continued to be part of it, again and again.
Harry was a singer of great musicality and curiosity, and a remarkable character. His deep bass voice and distinctive personality were familiar to many, both within and outside the choir. His contribution to early music and to Dutch musical life is of great significance.
Cappella Amsterdam is grateful that Harry van der Kamp was part of the choir and our history for so long. We wish his family and loved ones strength in this time.
