Congratulations from Daniel Reuss: 20 Years of Nieuw Vocaal Amsterdam

Artistic Director Daniel Reuss:

Twenty Years of Nieuw Vocaal Amsterdam. That is a milestone that we at Cappella Amsterdam celebrate with sincere admiration. It is an honor to congratulate everyone who has supported this remarkable organization over the past two decades.

Singing is one of the most fundamental forms of human expression. It connects people, opens hearts, and gives young voices a place in the world—both literally and figuratively. What Nieuw Vocaal Amsterdam does is exactly what we at Cappella Amsterdam consider to be the core of our mission. This is where both “clubs” come together and play a role in the future of choral music. Without a new generation of singers trained with passion and skill, there is no future for the art of choral singing that is so dear to all of us.

For us, the partnership with NVA is therefore more than just a wonderful annual tradition; it is a bond between partners who share the same convictions. Working with young people is an essential part of our vision and mission, which is why we always enjoy doing it so much. We see how young and very young singers grow here, how they discover their voices and can then confidently take the next step toward their future—as musicians, doctors, greengrocers, or whatever else they choose.

This commitment also gives us something in return: the young singers help us realize why we do this work. Their open-mindedness, their curiosity, and the direct way they make music keep our own perspective fresh and sharp. In their voices, we hear the essence of choral singing. I wish NVA a golden future, and I’d like to leave the last word to Daniël Lohues:

As long as the children kept singing,
And everything is going just as it should.
And if only love could keep winning,
It’ll all work out just fine.
