background
After a challenging period, we bring introspection and reflection with Mozart’s Requiem, performed by the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century. This masterpiece has captivated audiences for many years. Severely ill due to poor nutrition, work pressure, and financial worries, Mozart passed away before he could complete his Requiem.
Mozart composed this Requiem at the request of the Austrian Count Walsegg, who made an advance payment for it. After his death, Mozart’s widow, Constanze, was unable to repay that amount; therefore, she asked a student, Franz Süssmayr, to complete it. Since then, several composers have attempted to complete the work on Mozart’s level, with varying degrees of success.
The piece is one of Mozart’s most poignant works, striking the listener’s heart time and again. Together with the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century and soloists Ilse Eerens (soprano), Rosanne van Sandwijk (alto), Thomas Walker (tenor), and Henk Neven (bass), we will present the powerful Requiem of Mozart.
