background

Mother Earth. It is a universal concept, to which everyone on this planet has their own associations. And it is a collective consciousness that exists on a higher level than the exchange of language. Mother Earth gives, is fertile, offers a home, nourishes, and cares for our well-being.

Mother Earth is also unforgiving and forgets nothing. She does not spare us when we take too long and do not give back. After all, we live in a time where we seem more collectively aware than ever that the Earth could survive without humanity, but humanity could not survive without the Earth. In an era of electric cars and flight shame, humanity looks to Mother Earth and wonders how much more she can bear. This is concerning, but also hopeful and intriguing: new developments are given a chance, and tough decisions must be made.

For this project, internationally renowned composer Kate Moore is writing a new work for reed quintet and choir. In Chestnut Poet Moore focuses on the human flaw that she believes underlies the problematic relationship between humans and the planet: a lack of compassion – for each other, their environment, and their Earth.
