The remarkable Missa Sancti Georgii, composed by Herman Finkers for his wedding ceremony in 1990, has undergone several transformations over the years. Although originally intended for just that one day, the piece gained wider recognition and was taken up by various choirs across the Netherlands. Later, with the help of others, a version for choir and ensemble was created, which was recorded on a CD released in 1992.
Over time, Finkers felt the need for his own instrumentation. He therefore rewrote his mass in a version for string quintet, oboe, harp, positive organ, harpsichord, anvil, and choir. This 2023 edition, performed by Cappella Amsterdam and Holland Baroque under the direction of Daniel Reuss, presents this unique arrangement. In addition to the Missa Sancti Georgii, the album also features a beautiful rendition of a Gregorian Marian Vespers, sung by Wishful Singing.
