What is the podcast about?
In a good conversation with moderator Maartje Stokkers, musicologist Francis Maes and chief conductor Daniel Reuss illuminate Schnittke’s creative spirit and discuss Schnittke’s compositional styles. Step by step, they go through Schnittkes Psalms of Repentance.
“There is a beautiful manuscript of Stikhi Pokayanniye by Alfred Schnittke himself. There are considerable differences between this manuscript and Belaieff’s edition. There are almost no dynamic markings in the manuscript, there are no tempi indicated, there is no phrasing. And sometimes, different notes are simply written.” – Daniel Reuss
In these podcast episodes, you’ll also hear how Daniel deals with this freedom (or obstacle).
