background
Usually it is Jesus whose suffering takes center stage, but now it is his mother. Using Italian works, Cappella Amsterdam led by conductor Geoffroy Jourdain presents a journey through time on the theme of the suffering of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
A major work on the program is Domenico Scarlatti’s Stabat Mater (The Mother Stood). In addition to Scarlatti’s work, five Italian choral works surrounding the Passion of the Virgin Mary will be heard. From the 18th-century Italians Leo and Lotti to Silvia Borzelli, she has written a composition for choir especially for this concert.
