background
The annual Meesters&Gezellen is organized by the Tettix Foundation. The foundation aims to provide young singers, as a supplement to their training as soloists, the opportunity to develop their ensemble skills at the highest level and thereby improve their economic prospects. A second goal is to teach young singers to see ensemble work as an essential formative experience, even for a future solo career.
Masters&Gezellen seeks to make an essential contribution to the development and career prospects of young singers by offering them an ensemble work experience at the highest possible level. This project bridges the gap between conservatory education, which is necessarily focused primarily on solo singing, and the harsh reality beyond, where versatility is increasingly essential.
From the first edition to the 2019 edition, 143 young musicians have participated in Meesters&Gezellen. Of these, 113 were vocalists. Additionally, 20 choir conductors, five instrumentalists, and four music education students from the National Youth Choir participated. Four participants had no professional musical training. Currently, 48 of the 143 former participants are singing in a professional ensemble, and 96 of the 143 participants are working as soloists.
