background
Following successful performances of Così fan tutte and Le Nozze di Figaro, the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century and Cappella Amsterdam will present Don Giovanni this season, the last of Mozart’s “great Italian three.”
The opera, in two acts, follows the story of Don Giovanni, a reckless womanizer who tries to seduce every woman he encounters. here are two versions of the work: the Prague and the Vienna versions. For the Vienna performance, Da Ponte adapted the libretto with new arias and a shorter, more positive finale. This production uses a combination of both versions, featuring arias from both Ottavio and Elvira.
