background
During the first Cello Biennale in 2006, they celebrated the 75th anniversary of Sofia Gubaidulina, who was present, with performances of all her works featuring the cello. Even then, Cappella Amsterdam and Pieter Wispelwey made a big impression with the spectacular Canticle of the Sun.
Romantic works for cello and choir by Rudi Tas and Anton Arensky were also performed at previous Biennales. What has never been heard before is the new composition by Mathilde Wantenaar. Choir and cello are not unfamiliar to her, as she studied both cello and voice at the conservatory for some time.
