"And, as mentioned, it became an unforgettable experience. A performance of this piece has a ritualistic quality, and with Wispelwey, this is heightened by the expressions on his face and body. When beginning a phrase, he would puff out his cheeks (sometimes audibly), and during the ethereally charged glissandi, he would dramatically release his cello at the end, as if it had suddenly become electrically charged."

background

Led by chief conductor Daniel Reuss, Cappella Amsterdam and cellist Pieter Wispelwey perform a programme for choir and cello composed of works by contemporary composers. These composers are all known for their innovative approaches to composition. They all challenge the traditional boundaries of music and constantly seek new ways to express their artistic vision.

We also enter the world of Mathilde Wantenaar, a Dutch composer whose creative vision takes a fresh look at the relationship between choir and cello with a new composition.
