background
Johann Sebastian Bach’s Hohe Messe (Mass in B minor) (1685-1750) does not have a narrative like, for example, the Matthäus-Passion, but is a collection of Latin texts that were usually spoken during the Roman Catholic liturgy. Strange for a staunch Lutheran like Bach, you might say, such a ‘Catholic’ mass composition. However, in Bach’s time, it was not unusual to perform a mass during a Protestant service. Fortunately, otherwise, this unparalleled creation would have slipped past us. We will also perform this work in collaboration with our long-time beloved partner: the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century.
The concert on Tuesday, November 16, in Burgos (Spain) has been canceled.
