Johannes Brahms bracht de koorwereld veel meer dan alleen zijn Ein deutsches Requiem. Hij schreef schitterende motetten en koorwerken, al dan niet met pianobegeleiding, zoals het Schicksalslied en de Motetten, op. 110. Daniel Reuss en zijn Cappella Amsterdam breken een lans voor een aantal minder bekende koorwerken van Brahms en zetten meteen de toon met het motet Warum ist das Licht gegeben dem Mühseligen?
